This month we attended my dance teacher's wedding in San Diego. I felt as if I was in a Bollywood wedding. The festivities were over a week long, the costumes were all exquisite, the bride and the groom were always color co-ordinated. And the best part I think was the groom arriving on an elephant. I did have a good time being an extra in this bollywood set, but I think my middle class sensibilities didn't find the lavishness palatable.
I never imagined that while I was frowning upon the Barjatya, Johar and Chopra wedding inanities, they were being lapped up by the kids of this generation. I only shudder to imagine what the current flood of hindi movies is going to do to the next generation!
