Love in the times of Cholera

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Lots of memorable thoughts, beautiful prose, and I have never read such a fitting description of teenage love. Also loved the fact that though the relationship between Fermina Daza and Florentina Ariza stems from teenage love, it is in fact a new relationship.

This is one of the rare occassions, where though I didn't like one of the main characters - Florentina Ariza, I still managed to enjoy the book. His last affair in the book was totally distasteful for me. But Fermina Daza was so delightful, spunky and lovable.

Some of my favorite quotes from the book.
"Wisdom comes to us when it can no longer do any good."

"one could be happy not only without love, but despite it."

"He allowed himself to be swayed by his conviction that human beings are not born once and for all on the day their mothers give birth to them, but that life obliges them over and over again to give birth to themselves."

"She discovered with great delight that one does not love one's children just because they are one's children but because of the friendship formed while raising them."

But this one takes the cake:
"He was still too young to know that the heart's memory eliminates the bad and magnifies the good, and that thanks to this artifice we manage to endure the burden of the past."

How can you so manage to have so many wonderful thoughts.. and trust me there are countless in the book.
