Truth and Fiction

Most people feel that 'A fine balance' is quite harsh and unrelenting in its depiction of the struggles of the poor. I have even heard one person, sitting in the lap of luxury, say that real life is not as dismal as Mistry has made it out to be!

I was going through Anand Patwardhan's writings on his website. And I read this 1986 press release, around the time Patwardhan won the National Award for 'best non-feature film' of the year, for his documentary "Hamara Shahar/Bombay our city".

In the last 2 decades, not much has changed for the slumdwellers.
