This movie was sitting in our dvd player for over a couple of months. On Sunday we decided to get our netflix queue moving and watched this movie. We didn't have many expectations from the movie.
But the movie was such a treat! I haven't seen such a beautiful, simple, touching tale in a long long time. Not many dialogues, not much melodrama, just life. I loved Ricci and especially little Bruno. I was surprised to read that the director Vittorio De Sica used non-actors with no training in his movies, and the lead actor in the movie - Lamberto Maggiorani was a factory worker. Also, apparently the genre - neo-realism, and the movie influenced Satyajit Ray to take up film-making as a career.
This movie is a must-watch.
